Tulsa Ready to “Shock” in DFW Area

After starting 8-1, the Tulsa Shock seemed unsure how the rest of their season would go after losing Skylar Diggins (ACL).

However, they were able to secure a playoff spot for the first time since moving to Oklahoma.

And the playoffs aren’t the only thing they are moving on to.

The WNBA officially approved to move the team to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for next season, where they will play at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Shock majority owner said,

“The move makes sense because the Dallas area is the largest underserved market for women’s sports and has the nation’s fifth biggest media market.”

With all the news on moving, the Shock need to stay focused on the playoffs and hopefully leave the city of Tulsa with a parting gift!

Until Next Time!

NBA Free Agency, You Dirty, Dirty Dog!

Screen Shot 2015-07-19 at 1.17.42 PM
Photo: DeAndre Jordan Instagram

It goes without saying that the NBA free agency is a way to get luck or get f*cked and that definitely rang true this season.

Some franchises, like the San Antonio Spurs scoring David West and LaMarcus Aldridge, hit it big and some (aka Dallas Mavericks) didn’t hit it at all.

The notorious Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, put all of his eggs in one basket over a verbal commitment from DeAndre Jordan for a four-year $80 million deal and got absolutely blind sided when DeAndre went completely radio silent and re-signed with the Clippers five days later.

Being the business-minded man that he is, Cuban offered the following choice words about this blatant act of disrespect, “I pick my nose at the table. I don’t give a f*ck about etiquette. It’s not about etiquette. Look guys, sh*t happens, right? This is business. this is the real world. You move on. There’s lots of guys that haven’t played for the Mavericks that are in the NBA.”

But, need I remind you, this same man was the one saying a few days earlier that the Mavs were banking on DeAndre Jordan and, without him, they would go into full blown tank mode… Yikes, Dallas. Cuban was not pleased to say the least, and did not accept DeAndre’s apology when he came out with one.

Jordan posted the photo at the top of this article last week with the hashtag #home.

There’s another ouch for Cuban.

Who knew that watching the NBA free agency picks unfold would be more dramatic than watching The Real Housewives of Orange County?!

NBA Finals Are Over, & LeBron is Not the King of the Court

Jun 16, 2015; Cleveland, OH, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson (11) and guard Stephen Curry (30) celebrates with the Larry O'Brien Trophy after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in game six of the NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena. LeBron may be “KING” on the basketball court, but at the end of the night Tuesday, he was not the King on the court, nor was his team.

The Golden State Warriors won the 2015 NBA Finals title, proving they all most definitely deserved to be there. Actually, if anyone did deserve that title, it was them. Golden State enters the franchise’s first finals appearance in 40 years. Now that’s some motivation coming from the whole team.

But the guys who really stole the show for the boys in blue were the SPLASH BROTHERS! Obvi.

The warriors haven’t won an NBA title since 1975 and without these guys they wouldn’t have gone as far as they did.

If you didn’t know, these guys can shoot… from anywhere. Pretty sure some of Curry’s buckets were straight up coming from the parking lot. And after that NBA Finals performance, there’s no doubt  Curry will go down in history for his 3-point precision. Curry ended the series with an outstanding 156 points for the series, with 37 points in Game 5. Thompson ended with 95 points, scoring 34 of them in Game 2.

gty_lebron_james_tl_150603_4x3_992Although, Cleveland Cavaliers lost the 2015 NBA Finals, it must be mentioned that LeBron was on fire and put up an incredible performance throughout the entire series. The court really was LeBron’s own “personal playground.”

And naturally, it wouldn’t be like LeBron not to break some records during the Finals. LeBron scored the most points of any player through the first three games of the NBA Finals with 123 points. And let’s talk about his actual Game 3 performance. This was the first ever 40-point, 12-rebound, 8-assist, 4-steal NBA Finals game since steals were first recorded in 1973-74.

The warriors haven’t won an NBA title since 1975 and without the splash brothers they wouldn’t have been able to keep up with LeBron, however there was another name on the court that stood loud and clear for the warriors. Andre Iguodala.

Now, with the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA title, you would think it only makes sense to name a Warrior MVP, but Iguodala is definitely a debatable call- not to say he didn’t perform off the charts for himself during the Finals. After coming off the bench for the beginning of the series, Iguodala dominated on the court throughout the series getting 98 points, scoring 25 in Game 6. But let’s be real, he probably won MVP because he has the same birthday as me, January 28th, duh.

Congrats to Golden State on the Title and an even bigger congrats to one of our own SM Eagles- Klay Thompson for achieving this milestone!

Cheers up for you boys!

Only Lil Wayne… Gets into Brawl at “Stop the Violence” Charity Basketball Game

19-lil-wayne.w529.h529.2xThe irony is real.

Lil Wayne got into a brawl at the “Stop The Violence” Charity Basketball Game. The basketball game was supposed to be about putting “a stop to the violence” but clearly Wayne didn’t get the memo.

Lil Wayne didn’t agree to the ref’s calls in the match his “Young Money” team was competing in. So, this is how he handled that disagreement. He SPIT on the ref in retaliation and charged the court. Excuse the fact it’s hard to see with his 5’6 frame as a mob surrounds him post spit.

So much for stopping the violence…

LeBron Makes His Fifth Consecutive Finals Appearance

LeBron_James_Wiz

Don’t act like you are surprised. How could you be?!

LeBron James is a two-time NBA champion, four-time league MVP, and one of the game’s best players averaging 27.6 points and 10.4 rebounds this year in the playoffs.

James post-season play has been phenomenal, but what has been the most impressive characteristic of James is his maturity, leadership and will to win. James returns to the Finals for a fifth consecutive year and is using that experience to fuel him.

Growing up in Cleveland, this championship run the Cavaliers are making takes a special place in my heart. Hell, to even hear the words “championship” and “Cleveland” in the same sentence is strange for me. What I keep going back to for constant positive thoughts during the series is LeBron’s letter (the opposite of “The Decision”) that he released to Sports Illustrated below:

“I feel my calling here goes above basketball. I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, 741px-LeBron_James_1109and I take that very seriously. My presence can make a difference in Miami, but I think it can mean more where I’m from. Our community, which has struggled so much, needs all the talent it can get. In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have. I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.”

LeBron’s back is a bit sore (literally and figuratively) from carrying the Cavs, but his supporting cast has definitely stepped up. With no Kevin Love and an injured Kyrie Irving the most unlikely players are making a name for themselves.

photo22Matthew Dellavedova, the backup point guard single handedly won Game 3 against the Hawks, scoring 17 points off the bench. He has been the defensive and energetic spark plug for the Cavaliers always ending up in scrappy hustle plays on the floor leaving 110% on the court. In Game 6 of Cleveland’s series clincher against the Bulls, Dellavedova posted 19 points as well.

Forward Tristan Thompson is a big, gritty man who can guard multiple positions defensively and kill it on the offensive glass to get second chance points.JR_Smith_Cavs_-_2015

JR Smith scored a playoff career high 28 points and set a Cavaliers playoff franchise record nailing eight 3-pointers and is acting as a 3-point specialist.  Smith brings the cockiness and swagger that every locker room needs.

But make no mistake…this is LeBron’s town, this is LeBron’s team and it’s starting to look like it might be his time too.

The Filth is Real

5-Star Kansas recruit, Terrance Ferguson of Prime Prep Academy in Dallas, TX throws down this straight FILTHY dunk, just to reassure the world of all those five stars next to his name. No wonder his teammates are asking “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU BRUH?!” in the video. I mean, I guess it helps that the kid is 6’7.

I give it a week until Odell Beckham Jr. gives it a go.

10 Best Player Tattoos

Ladies and gentlemen, ’tis the season to be single and if you’re opinion is anything like mine, a tatted man is the best kind of man. There’s something beautiful and badass about a man who’s willing to have a needle stabbed into his body several times to ultimately create a work of art. No? Athletes are notorious for showcasing their art so without further a due, here are the 10 BEST Player Tattoos!

10. CC Sabathia

ccbacktat

NY Yankees pitcher, CC Sabathia, is the next badass on this list. Although CC doesn’t have pecks like Kap, he sure is feeling himself like Nicki and Bey! Sabathia makes this list simply because of all the detail put into his back! His last name coming out of flames is actually fuego, and take a look at that San Fran backdrop underneath with a lion and unicorn framing it. Okay, we see you!

9. Jermaine Jones

US midfielder Jermaine Jones reacts during a training session at the Centro Tecnico Frederico Germano Menzen training ground in Sao Paulo on June 19, 2014 as part of the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil. AFP PHOTO/ BEHROUZ MEHRI (Photo credit should read BEHROUZ MEHRI/AFP/Getty Images)

Jermaine Jones is arguably one of the best midfielders in America. But nothing says I rock heavy with my country like an American flag in a star tat on the knee! Keep being dope! #Mericuh

8. Mike Scott

mike-scott-nba-playoffs-atlanta-hawks-indiana-pacers-850x560

Please hear me out. Emojis are definitely a millennial thing: mostly overused but definitely glad we have them because sometimes they make the conversation a million times better. But for you to actually take your favorite Emojis and have them permanently tatted on your body?! You the real MVP. Atlanta Hawks forward, Mike Scott ladies and gents.

7. Matt Kemp

mattkemptatsgrandparents

LA Dodgers Matt Kemp makes the list because this beautiful portrait of his grandparents on his chest. Keeping family closest to his heart. What. A. Guy. (Swoon)

6. Colin Kaepernick

Screen Shot 2015-05-29 at 10.16.24 AM

San Francisco Niners QB Colin Kaepernick is next on the list. Now his tattoos may not look like much but you have to give a man props for the full chest tattoo that’s supposed to stand for “inner strength, spiritual growth, and humility” and in the mix of that says “against all odds.” Regardless if you love the tat or not, enjoy looking at his chest. 😉 #goodGAWD

5. Daniel Agger

article-1355405-0D1C024B000005DC-818_634x937

Now I’m no soccer pro, but when I see a tattoo I love, I ride for that player. Danish footballer, Daniel Agger has this insane portrait of Vikings in a graveyard that takes up his entire back. I won’t say much about it, because all you can really do is appreciate the detail in this true work of art.

4. Monta Ellis

Monta-Ellis-tattoos

The Dallas Mav’s Monta Ellis has a full tree on his stomach. Stretching from his chest all the way down to his naval. Should I say more?

3. Devin Thomas

Devin-Thomas-of-the-Giants-Inked-Up

Okay so remember earlier when I said “a tatted man is the best kind of man,” well that’s true. AND if it’s paired with a guy who’s still in touch with his inner child? Count me in! TWICE! Yeah, sure, Detriot Lions’ Devin Thomas has other tattoos, but come on! Having Goku from Dragon Ball Z tatted on your back is the flyest thing since Nike Air Force Ones first drop! Play on playa! 😉

2. J.R. Smith

Screen Shot 2015-05-29 at 10.16.07 AM

Cleveland Cavs guard J.R. Smith obviously makes the top 2 on this list. Of course we all know JR is super tatted but if you look closely at his neck, you’d think you’re staring at simply a Yankees symbol, but over that tattoo says “Young Money.” As in the record group that Lil’ Wayne owns. Oh yes, he did. The brave soul has a Young Money tattooed on his throat and yes, I’m here for it.

1. Tim Howard

b62ffd8c4f5e9e34dd267fa4e0b8818c

How could I make a list about tattoos and not have Tim Howard at numero uno! This American goalie is completely covered in ink. He has a dragon, a crucifix, pictures of his mother as a young woman and his grandfather in military uniform, and a Superman logo. With all those tats, I’ll be his Lois Lane any day of the week! #comefindme
