2015 NBA Draft: Biggest Standout and Biggest Sleeper Pick

In every NBA draft, you have the LeBron James and the Kobe Bryants of the group. Last year, it was Andrew Wiggins. This year, it’s Kentucky’s Karl Anthony-Towns and Duke’s Jahlil Okafor. We know them, we love them (or love to hate them) and we know they’ll be making more money in their first game than most of us will see in a lifetime, but what about the other players in the draft? Who are the other stars of the draft? Who are we not talking about that we should be? With so many NBA hopefuls, it’s hard to keep of track everyone so to help you out, here is the biggest standout (other than KAT and Okafor, obviously) and the biggest sleeper pick for the 2015 NBA Draft.

Biggest Standout: Willie Cauley-Stein, Kentucky.

Willie-Cauley-Stein-6

How can you not like Willie Cauley-Stein? Seriously though, this guy is awesome. Aside from his love for art and school, this 7-footer has game.

His defensive prowess, along with his ability to finish at the rim will be enticing to a lot of teams in the draft. On a team stacked with stars, Cauley-Stein managed to stand out. In just 25 minutes, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year and John Wooden All-American averaged 8.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He played a major role in helping Kentucky get to back-to-back Final Fours and a historical 38-1 season.

His presence alone could back down any offense. He has the ability to guard every position on the court, from the perimeter to the rim. He’s quick in transition and if you lob the ball, you can bet he will find it. One can argue that his numbers have slightly declined since his sophomore campaign, but don’t forget he shared the paint with Karl Anthony-Towns in that period.

Cauley-Stein is an all-around good guy and works well with the media (take some notes, Marshawn Lynch,) so what NBA team wouldn’t want him representing them? We often talk about how a player’s game will translate to the NBA, but it’s very rare that we talk about the fame and fortune the prospects are faced with once they leave the proverbial collegiate nest.

There are a lot of distractions that can cause a rookie to fail, but if there’s one player to be picked as the most prepared for the off-court antics, it’s WCS. He has dealt with crazy Kentucky fans and lofty expectations for the last three years. If a player can survive that, they can survive anything.

Cauley-Stein is projected as a top 10 pick in the draft and could even sneak his way into the top five.

Biggest Sleeper: Delon Wright, Utah.

You may have heard his name, but do you respect his game? Don’t expect him to be a franchise player, but he can definitely be an impact player.

With his unique skillset and 6’5 height, the second team All-American honoree can be a reliable backup point guard or shooting guard. He attacks the lane and can knock down shots from outside the arc (just ask Stanford.) Not only does he get to the charity stripe, he’s effective when he’s there – an 83-percent free throw shooter.

The Los Angeles native averaged 14.5 points and 5.1 assists per game, proving that he creates for himself, and shares with his teammates too. His size and his ability to change directions quickly will keep defenders on their toes.

What makes Wright the best sleeper prospect is his defensive game. He pulls down an average of 4.9 rebounds and pickpockets the ball 2.6 times per game. His press game is strong and his basketball IQ is apparent, making him really shine on the defensive end.

Wright is slated to be a late first round or early second round pick.

The NBA Draft is Thursday, June 25th at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. Who are you most impressed with? Who do you think will go number one? Top 10 Beer’s To Bring To Your Next Tailgate

IMG_1169

Whether you’re outside your favorite football stadium, in a muddy field before a summer concert, or in your own driveway with your best friends, everyone loves drinking a nice, cold one while tailgating.

Usually tailgate beers are meant for more of a quantity over quality feel, the most bang for your buck (aka the people’s champion: Natty Light.) As a lover of both sports and booze, here are my suggestions of some tasty brews to bring to your next tailgate that will keep everyone asking for more and might surprise you!

#10. GOOSE ISLAND IPA- Impress your Chicago friends/fans and try all the other Goose Island brands. Can’t go wrong!

#9. SIERRA NEVADA TORPEDO- Hoppy and lives up to it’s name, aka having the ability to sink your entire day, in a good way of course.

#8. YUENGLING- America’s oldest brewery! Malty & slightly sweet.

#7. SHINER BOCK- Because TEXAS, that’s why.

#6. FAT TIRE AMBER ALE- Perfect if you’re looking to gain some parking lot cred with the adults with this “classier” canned beer. Not the cheapest at $15.99 for a 12 pack, but always tasty.

#5. BUDWEISER/BUD LIGHT- Such a classic that I couldn’t keep it off the list- also economical!

#4. ANCHOR STEAM- California common, that is always delicious and the only steam beer in the US.

#3. FOUNDER’S ALL DAY IPA– Year round availability and comes in a 15 pack of cans how cool is that?!

#2. GREAT LAKES DORMUNTER GOLD- A Cleveland favorite had to get some love on my list! In a cold, broken city, where sports dreams go to die, I have come to realize one thing us Clevelanders are really good at: DRINKING.

#1. PABST BLUE RIBBON aka PBR- My grandpa’s favorite beer- and now the Brooklyn hipsters fave as well. Less than a buck per beer, you can pick up a 12 pack for $9.99 before your next tailgate!

But remember the best beer at a tailgate, is ALWAYS the one your holding.

Happy tailgating folks!

Tips for Finding the Best Apartment for YOU!

15846879191_8ca12d23cf_k

Finding a perfect apartment in your city is just like finding the perfect outfit to wear on a Friday night out with the girls.

Well, maybe not. Because let’s just say, the commitment of a crop top for a couple hours doesn’t quite compare to picking your new home for the year or years to come.

If you’re like me and like to live a plethoric amount of “mini” lives in your lifetime, then you’ll be packing up and moving out every twelfth month of that lease. But with every move comes the heavy weight of a big commitment decision (yikes.)

So how have I managed to do it these past years, you ask?

I’ll let you in on my dirty, but sensible, secrets on how to find the PERFECT apartment to make all of your friends wonder what you’re doing, how you got it and who your interior decorator is!

  1. Find your SOCIAL AREA and focus in on local apartments— IMG_2483Where do you like to go out?
Save yourself some money in Ubers on Friday nights and Saturday day drinking and drive
the extra ten minutes to work instead. Because who doesn’t want to wake up and walk of shame to Sunday brunch in your makeup from last night?
  2. Know the right TIME— A lot of people don’t realize the amount of money you can save on apartments just by the month you start your lease. A $1,400/month apartment can easily go down to $1,100/month in the “off-season.” Try to start your search around October with a lease-start around November-January (Think: no one wants to apartment hunt during holiday season, so snag a deal!) Months to AVOID: May, June, July, August and September.15551350724_3a13ccf9ce_h
  3. Do your RESEARCH— Hire an apartment locator. They can lay out all of the options available in your area and price range and, in most cases, it won’t cost you any money IMG_2484because the apartment you sign a lease with will usually foot the bill. An apartment locator will help you seal the deal on getting that perfect apartment (with the tanning pool!)
  4. STYLE it up— Even the nicest apartment can look like a frat house with the wrong furniture, so don’t do that to yourself! Tap into some discounts and look on websites like: houzz.com, www.jossandmain.com, and www.wayfair.com and get some design on a dime!rbk-home-bar-tutorial-bar-xln

Even though apartment hunting can seem like a huge responsibility, take it with a grain of salt (or a splash of sugar) and realize that it can be fun and easy! Plus, if clothing trends change by the year, doesn’t that mean that housing trends change too? So stay on top of what’s hot and realize that a new apartment is also just a really good excuse to redecorate.

Good luck on your search my friends, but I think it’s time for me to put on some shades and go walk to the nearest bottomless mimosa bar!

Cheers!
