Best Cleanses to Try Before Summer Ends

Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to get into shape or at least clean your bod of all the day drinking you’ve actively pursued this summer.

Hence, it’s cleanse time.

Let’s talk about two cleanses that will be a kick-start to losing those extra lbs or just getting your body back to a healthy state.

Nekter’s 3 Day Classic Cleanse

This is my fave! The Nekter 3 Day Classic Clense is quoted online as…

“The perfect cleanse to reset your system, assist in breaking you of those sugar cravings and jump starting a new healthier regime with the side benefit of dropping a few pounds.”

But don’t worry, this is NOT a fast! It’s a way to give your body the nutrients it needs. There are six 16.9 oz drinks that consist of different blends of fruits and vegetables. Plus they are delicious! Well, there’s one that kinda sucks, but you’ll get over that because the other ones are so bomb diggity.

It’s Almost Fall, So Channel Your Inner Basic White Girl & Love Pumpkin Flavored Anything

Mmm, fall is in the air. The season of sweaters, scarves, oversized boots and all things pumpkin.

Raise your hand if you love yourself some Starbucks Pumpkin Spice lattes! WELL GUESS WHAT! It’s almost that time of year! And GUESS WHAT ELSE! Starbucks is now using REAL pumpkin puree in their drinks.

That’s right, in the past starbucks had used caramel coloring aka playing games with your mind! Come on Starbs, don’t play me like that!

If you’re a true Starbaholic like yours truly, you already know the date when your lips can taste the warm, happy, deliciousness that is a pumpkin spice latte. For the rest of you peasants who don’t, it’s Tuesday, September 8th. Which is my birthday… Oh the irony!

While we’re on the topic of all things pumpkin, who doesn’t love a good piece of pumpkin bread? Well I’ve found the BEST recipe for pumpkin bread, which you can try here. And don’t be a little betch and skimp out on the glaze, that’s the best part!

Drink of the Week! Blue Hawaiian

It’s Friday. And I don’t like it, I love it.

Yeah, summer is basically over but hey, who said we have to act like it?!

Therefore, this week’s Drink of the Week is a Blue Hawaiian- specifically from Luau Larry’s on Catalina Island (and how appropriate that we have two of our TCD girls there this weekend!)

For those of you not in reach of hitting up Luau Larry’s, here’s the ingredients and some instructions on how you’re going to make your own!

INGREDIENTS
1 oz Light Rum
1 oz Blue Curaco
1 oz Sweet and Sour
1 oz Triple Sec
2 oz Pineapple Juice
1 Pineapple Wedge
1 Cherry

DIRECTIONS
1. Find a festive cup, because we know every drink tastes better in a festive cup.
2. Pour in the pineapple juice first.
3. Add the rum, sweet and sour and triple sec.
4. Add the blue curaco last to make it look like the pic and totally instagramable.
5. Add the pineapple wedge to the rim.
6. Plop that cherry in.

That’s it! You have accomplished a Blue Hawaiian. Now all you need is your hula skirt and lei! 😉

Drink of the Week! Thyme Greyhound

Aye, aye! It’s Thirsty Thursday & how convenient it’s FIVE o’clock here! This Thursday we were feeling ultra festive for our drink of the week so prepare yourselves because this one is not for the faint of heart! Thanks to Anthro Blog we got this new recipe and drink to try!

Say hello to the THYME GREYHOUND!

INGREDIENTS:

For the thyme simple syrup (yes, you have to make it yourself, calm your titties):
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
4-5 thyme sprigs

For the cocktail:
½ part thyme simple syrup
1 part vodka
2 parts grapefruit juice
Sprigs of fresh thyme, for garnish
Cherry, for garnish

Now before you panic that you have to make your own simple syrup, there’s a reason it’s called SIMPLE.

So here’s what you have to do… Start by making the syrup by combining sugar, water and thyme sprigs in a small saucepan. Let these suckers simmer for a bit on say, medium-low heat. Don’t forget to keep stirring until all the suga’ suga’ is dissolved. Once it’s done, let it chill for a sec and take out the thyme sprigs. FINALLY in a glass filled with ice, stir all that sh*t together and make your drink. Then obviously, garnish that bad boy with a sprig of fresh thyme and a cherry.

Voilà! You’re done! Now drink.

Speak Easy, Will Ya?

Let’s go to the bar.

But nowadays it’s not like you can just go to any bar. You need to go to the bar that’s the hot new thing. You know- super exclusive, trendy as hell. Some may even be a secret…

Oh yes, I’m talking about speakeasies.

Like the Gatsby era, there are some secret “speakeasy”-like bars that are still in our midst for us to rage in. LET’S GO. Wait, I just realized, it’s a secret. WELL, let’s just see if you guys can actually get in.

What? Get into a speakeasy? What, like it’s hard?

My friends and I went to one in Los Angeles, more specifically Culver City, called the Blind Barber. 

The name carries significant meaning. For starters, the entrance is a full on barber shop. And, this entrance isn’t just for show. It literally runs as a barber shop by day, & then the entrance to a secret bar by night. When you imagine what a barber shop looks like, that’s what this was. Think: black and white floors, the classic red, white, & blue barber pole, scissors, razors, two rows of barber chairs. The whole shebang.

Before even entering the barber shop, we had to state the entrance password to a man. The man acts really nonchalant & doesn’t look like a super obvious body guard standing next to an entrance door. He actually just looks like a guy that happens to be walking on the curb past these shops. Perhaps, he paces down a few shops back and forth all night? I’ll never know because I wasn’t there to hang out with guard.

Once we stated the entrance password to him, he escorted us through the barbershop, a bunch of right & left turns, & then VOILA! Next thing I know we were at the top of a staircase and could hear some bumpin’ music and a sh*t-ton of people. We all looked at each other with a twinkle in our eye and shared a couple fist pumps to the music – AKA HERE WE GO, IT’S RAGE TIME BETCHES.

Not only was it a full bar, but the Blind Barber happens to be known for their gourmet grilled cheeses. Drunk girls and carbs- Yeah, they go well together. 🙋

Now, this is just my account of one of the speakeasies I have been to. Of course, there are other speakeasies out there. It’s just a matter of whether or not you can find them and then know the password… Good luck! 😉

Drink of the Week! Lynchburg Lemonade

THIRSTY THURSDAY. Time for a TCD drink of the week! (But let’s be real, we don’t need it to be Thursday to find an excuse to make festive drinks.) 💁

Due to the simple fact that I live in Tennessee, it’s pretty much still summer and I refuse to drink anything but whiskey… And why shouldn’t I?! Why not throw some good ‘ole Jacky Daniels in the mix! As long as you keep your sh*t together, you’re golden. Cue our drink of the week: Lynchburg Lemonade. Or in other words, the perfect boozy lemonade to polish summer off with.

Here’s what you kiddos will need…

Shopping List:
Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey
Sweet and Sour Mix
Cointreau (Triple Sec)
Sprite Zero (Because really, who likes calories…)
Fresh Lemons, Limes and Oranges

Get a big pitcher- The more the merrier, obviously.

And, we’re just going to eyeball this because, quite honestly, I don’t need a measuring device to tell me how much whiskey I need… Am I right people?!

INGREDIENTS:
1-part Jacky D
1-part Sweet and Sour Mix (I substitute meddled oranges with lemon and lime juice for the freshness!)
1-part Cointreau
4-parts Sprite Zero

Mix it all up and then cut your lemons and limes, and stir them in!

Put ice in some glasses, and pour! Garnish with lemons and limes and you’re a Lynchburg Lemonade pro!

And when you’re south of the Mason Dixon line, when we say pour into glasses we mean generous pours into large mason jars. 😉

Drink of the Week! Sangria Rosé

It’s still summer people so let’s act like it! Time to sip on some SANGRIA ROSÉ like the fancy ass vetches I know you all are. Thanks to Inspired by Charm we have this fabulous recipe for this week’s drink of the week! It’s literally SO simple to make, so if you manage to screw this up I’d be really surprised.

INGREDIENTS:
1 bottle dry rosé wine
1 cup limoncello
1 cup fresh raspberries
1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
1 lemon, sliced
1/2 orange, slices and quartered

DIRECTIONS:
In a large pitcher, combine the fruit. Pour in the limoncello, then the rosé. Stir and chill at least an hour. Serve in a glass with ice garnish and extra fruit, if desired. (Be fancy AF- Don’t skip this part.)

This should serve six people, but let’s be real that’s enough for three of us TCD gals! Always double up! Enjoy fools and happy Friday! 😉

How to Make Unforgettable Bloody Mary’s

What’s a brunch without a Bloody Mary? Sadness. Pure sadness.

For those of you that are mimosa drinkers, I apologize as I rain on your parade. Mimosa’s just don’t do it for me. But Bloodys? Bloody Mary’s are my kinda style. 🍹

Now, not every Bloody Mary is up to par. To be honest, you kind of got to scope the scene that you’re at, see who’s ordered them and see what they look like.

Yeah, call me picky.

I am just a girl that knows what she wants and I ain’t going to settle for anything less. Yes, I am still talking about Bloody Mary’s.

Let me clarify as to what the perfect Bloody should consist of and look like…

– Start by dipping the rim of your cup in Montreal Steak Seasoning… Trust me on this one.
– Vodka… DUH.
– Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix… This is crucial. Other Bloody Mary mix’s just can’t even.
– A couple splashes of Worchester Sauce… Self explanatory.
– A couple splashes of Cholula Hot Sauce… Because I said so!
– 1/4 teaspoon of Horseradish… Boom, boom, pow!
– 1 piece of Celery… Because what is a Bloody Mary without celery?
– A couple Olives & Jalapeños on a toothpick… Great appetizing accessory. Hell, even add some green beans and pickles!
– Last but certainly not least, bacon… Because everyone loves bacon.

These are the bare necessities. The minimum per say.

If you’re at a super festive place, there may be a small meal included within your Bloody Mary.

Sounds crazy good, I know.

Yes, that’s another extra Bloody Mary on top for kicks.

These small meals can range from:  – A piece of pizza 🍕
– A Burger 🍔
– Tater Tots
– Crab Legs
– Shrimp 🍤
– Chicken 🍗
– Ribs 🍖
– A Sandwich
– Onion Rings
– French Fries 🍟

When it’s made by yours truly, it will blow your mind, as will I. 💁🏼
